Recall of Rabipur Rabies Vaccine

Novartis Vaccines are recalling two batches of Rabipur Rabies Vaccine.  The affected batches are:

• Batch Number 400011A, expiry date 09/2009, first distributed 14 August 2006

• Batch Number 402011A, expiry date 08/2009, first distributed 26 September 2006

This recall has been initiated because it was noticed that the seam around the blister, containing the syringe and needle, was not always intact.  In this situation the sterility of the syringe and needle could not be guaranteed.

Health care professionals are advised that the affected batches should not be distributed or used and should be returned to the supplier for return to Novartis Vaccines.
