Patient Group Direction: Yellow fever vaccine
The National Travel Health Network and Centre has developed a model Patient Group Direction (PGD) document for yellow fever vaccine (YFV). The content of this model PGD may be used to assist the development of a PGD for YFV, appropriate to local requirements.
Medicines (and vaccines) should be administered either on a one to one basis (individual prescription) or by a Patient Specific Direction (PSD) or by a Patient Group Direction (PGD) [1]. PGDs provide a legal framework for the supply and administration of medicines including vaccines and are appropriate for the supply and administration of licensed vaccines (including YFV) in both private and NHS health care settings [2,3].
There is specific legislation relating to the use of PGDs in both the NHS and private sectors. Health care providers who chose to use PGDs should ensure they adhere to the legislation relating to the sector in which they work [2,3,4]
The Model PGD is available to registered Yellow Fever Vaccination Centres (YFVCs) in England, Wales and Northern Ireland via the login area. The model can be made available to other interested parties on request.
