23rd February 2004: MENGIVAC A+C no longer to be marketed
We have been notified by Aventis Pasteur MSD that MENGIVAC A+C will no longer be marketed as a result of the new recommendations for travellers regarding meningococcal meningitis vaccination. It is anticipated that this vaccine will cease to be available from May 2004.
Meningococcal meningitis recommendations for travellers were revised
in August 2003 to reflect changes in epidemiology of the different
circulating strains of Neiserria meningitidis and to take into consideration
the presence or absence of recent meningococcal meningitis outbreaks.
The main changes in recommendations for travellers are:
1. The quadrivalent meningococcal meningitis vaccine is now the
vaccine of choice for travellers considered to be at risk.
2. Individual country recommendations.
