Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre (YFVC) Training

This page contains the following information on our training seminars:

Background

NaTHNaC requires standards of practice within designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centres (YFVCs) in line with the YFVC Code of Practice. See the Information Pack for further details.

As part of designation requirements, a doctor, nurse or pharmacist from each YFVC must attend a full day NaTHNaC sponsored yellow fever training seminar upon application to become a new YFVC. One clinical member of staff must attend an update training seminar once every two years, but this does not need to be the health care professional who previously attended.

Aim of training seminars

The aim of the training seminars is to provide health care professionals working in designated centres with theoretical knowledge and understanding of yellow fever disease and vaccination in order to:

  • Accurately advise travellers about yellow fever disease risk and prevention
  • Administer vaccine in a safe manner
  • Comply with the requirements of the International Health Regulations (2005) as stipulated by the World Health Organization

The seminar will provide information and promote discussion on topics including:

  • Global epidemiology and transmission of yellow fever
  • International Health Regulations (2005), World Health Organization
  • Areas with risk of yellow fever transmission
  • Yellow fever vaccine
  • Risk assessment for travel

The seminars are informal and are interactive.

Cancellation policy

In completing the training application form, delegates accept that whilst NaTHNaC will use its best endeavours to ensure that training takes place at the date and time indicated there may be occasions when circumstances outwith NaTHNaC's control mean that a particular training session has to be cancelled.

Delegates further accept that in the event of cancellation of a training session NaTHNaC will be unable to refund any costs associated with an individual delegate's attendance at the cancelled session, to include both the costs of the session itself and any travel and other expenses whatsoever associated therewith.

Should a training session be cancelled then delegates are advised to contact NaTHNaC who will use its best endeavours to ensure that a delegate is booked into a future training session at no extra charge. Delegates should however note that they will be responsible for any travel and other expenses associated with their attendance at a future session.

Delegates who cancel a booking will not be eligible for a refund. The training fee may be applied to a different delegate from the same YFVC.
